How to Make Your Own Skin Moisturizers
>> Friday, June 24, 2011
Skin is the largest organ on the body, which is why it is so important to keep it healthy and moisturized. Moisturized skin not only looks healthier, but heals faster as well. Manufactured moisturizers are often used to achieve moist soft skin, but these products contain harsh dyes and perfumes that can actually dry the skin. With safe natural ingredients, such as bee wax, honey, coco butter, and various oils, you can make your own effective skin moisturizers.
Moisturizing Lotion
To begin making your own basic moisturizing lotion, you need to melt two tablespoons of grated bee wax. Melt the bee wax with two teaspoons of distilled water over low heat. Once the wax is melted stir in a half a cup of coco butter. Gradually stir in two tablespoons of sesame oil, two tablespoons of coconut oil, and one tablespoon of olive oil. Finally pour the mixture into a glass jar and let it cool. Now you can apply the hydrating body lotion, which also contains vitamins and can heal damage.
Hydrating Balm
Hydrating balm also requires you to melt bee wax. Melt three tablespoons of bee wax in a pot over low heat, but do not add water. Remove the pot from the heat source and add a half a cup of organic extra virgin olive oil. If you desire a scented balm you can add one or two drops of essential oil. Do not add essential oil if you are going to use it on infants or small children. Pour the liquid into a glass container and let it cool. Once cool the balm can be applied.
Moisturizing Mask
Our face is one of the most exposed parts of our body and it can get dry or damaged easily. Here is a simple recipe for a hydrating facemask that contains common kitchen ingredients. Mix one and a half teaspoons of honey, a half a lemon, three tablespoons of yogurt, and a whipped egg white into a bowl. Once well blended apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for about 15 minutes. When the 15 minutes are over rinse the mask off with lukewarm water.
Avocado Facial
A simple but highly effective facial requires only one avocado. Discard the skin and the pit of the avocado, and mash the rest of the avocado until it is creamy. Rub the avocado on your face and let it stand for 15 minutes. Once the time is up rinse the facial off with warm water. This avocado facial is an effective moisturizer because the avocado is rich with vitamins and proteins. Vitamin E found in avocados can help to reverse signs of aging.
Honey Bath Soak
An old trick to moisturized skin is to add a cup of honey to bath water. Adding honey to a warm bath is simple but highly effective because honey absorbs and retains water.
Lavender Bath Soak
Another way to moisturize skin while relaxing in a warm bath is with a lavender bath soak mixture. Mix ten drops of lavender essential oil, one and a half cups of whole milk, and one-third cup of honey into a bowl. Pour into a glass jar and keep in refrigerator when not being used. This mixture will last up to one week and is enough for two baths. Make sure to shake the jar before use, and then proceed to pour half of the lavender bath soak into the tub and enjoy your hydrating bath.
