Equipment for Low Vision Treatment

>> Sunday, March 20, 2011

There hasn’t always been enough focus applied to the field of low vision treatment.  Upon closer examination, it becomes clear that advancements over the past several decades have given nearly-blind men and women something closer to perfect vision. Now more than ever, affordable and powerful low vision therapy solutions abound.

There’s now a wide variety of excellent and affordable equipment for the treatment of low vision. From microperimeters to retinal cameras to confocal microscopes, people with low vision and those who provide for them can find and implement technology that enhances not only their vision, but their lives.

Microperimeters

Power. Flexibility. Affordability. A good retinal camera provides all of this and more, in one superior package.
Custom designed to treat patients with low vision, these cameras, also known as fundus tracking microperimeters, provide both true retinal sensitivity data and a quantitative analysis of fixation location and stability.

Features of a strong retinal camera include a biofeedback system with low-vision fixation therapy, differential mapping function, ability to locate position, shape and size of the smallest scotomas, exact exam replication for assessment of retinal sensitivity changes, and more. Some of the best versions on the market today include:

• Ability to create customized perimetry patterns – specify stimulus intensity, location, size, color and duration
• Auto-plotting of perimetry and fixation data over a color fundus photo

Autofocus Fundus Cameras

A strong autofocus fundus camera blends power with affordability. Otherwise known as a retinal camera, autofocus fundus cameras provide an economic and effective solution to automated imaging.

Features of a strong autofocus fundus camera include:
• AutoFocus, AutoShot, AutoTrackerand imaging resolution at a range of resolutions (from 12.2 to 21.1 megapixels)
• Full-frame sensor for true fundus imaging at a 1-to-1 ratio
• True 45-degree images (without cropping) for a more complete diagnostic screening
• Automatic separation for repeatable analysis in stereo
• Fully networkable NAVIS-Lite Data Management Software for efficient file storage, retrieval, sharing and image manipulation (reduces image transfer size to under 1 megapixel)
Confocal Microscopes

Market-leading and cutting-edge vision therapy technology can be found in the form of a confocal microscope. The most reliable and efficient confocal microscopes are completely auto-aligning and unaffected by corneal haze or opacities. Some models even include automatic cell-analysis software that detects the number of sides and area of each cell, as well as endothelial cell density.

Features of a strong confocal microscope include:
• Gel-immersion exams as quick as 15 seconds
• Real-time in-vivo histology
• Full cornea/endothelium/epithelium scans
• Multiple internal fixation mires
• Automatic cell count and endothelial density measurement
• Increased reimbursable exams
• Precise location of corneal layers and structures (including flap and residual bed thickness in LASIK corneas)

Erick D. Smith is a health blogger living in San Diego and he likes to write about health news and information, including the usefulness of medical products such as the confocal microscope. There are plenty of treatment options if you are struggling with vision issues, so consult with your healthcare provider if you need treatment such as low vision therapy.

Jealousy in Relationships

>> Tuesday, March 15, 2011

It is difficult to speak of jealousy in relationships without mentioning envy. Jealousy is the fear of losing something or someone that really matters to us. Many people say they are jealous of another's life and accomplishments. This is not jealousy. It is envy, which by definition is wanting something that someone else is or has. It is good to be clear about the two words which ultimately bring clarity about our own personal feelings. Experiencing jealousy is not easy. The feeling of fear is not an easy feeling.

Fear, envy, and jealousy can be useful. Healthy fear can save our lives and jealousy can tell us just how important another person is in our life. Healthy envy allows us to have role models and permits us to ask others for their guidance.

When envy and jealousy in relationships is insidious, extremely intense, or are habitual, it is important to realize they can destroy relationships and actually bring about the very thing that is feared. The difficulty is a feeling of insecurity which emanates from within. Even if it was instilled in us as children, it is still within us in the present moment. Extreme envy or jealousy does not permit us to focus on our problems and the issues at hand. It will cause inappropriate anger that needs to be worked out by us and not directed at another person.

Psychotherapy can help to reveal the problem. Hypnosis can help in this revelation and in breaking a destructive cycle.

“I Didn’t Know” is Not a Well Thought out Excuse

>> Sunday, March 13, 2011

There are plenty of resources to aid in gaining the know-how for lifestyle change. HCG diet recipes help people know what foods to eat and how to prepare them, making the healthy eating transition much easier while supported by the supplement. It takes a few minutes of research and an actual desire to alter your eating routine in order to start the process of really being healthy and living longer.

I can think of two main problems that contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle even after someone begins a diet or exercise program. People persist in their bad habits, expecting a simple diet pill will solve all of their body condition woes. And then there are those who simply don’t know where to go or how to start in order to change their eating habits. Many times I think it is a combination of these two factors that prevents the loss of undesired weight.

What I want or expect doesn’t always run parallel with what I need to do to achieve a certain result. Some people expect to lose weight and be healthy through some dietary supplement while still eating the greasy foods that got them overweight in the first place. There is a logical imbalance here. Healthy living requires a healthy lifestyle. There is no supplement in the world that can negate the harmful effects of degrading foods. Diet supplements are meant to support and even speed up the healthy living process.

Real diet programs, such as HCG diet, improve all the aspects of healthy living instead of only providing a pill that promises drastic results while its users continue in their bad habits. Everything that is worth having in this world requires work to get it; especially health. You need hours of study and research in order to have the knowledge you want. You need consistent work and planning in order to grow a business. The amount of time and effort equals the amount of long-term satisfaction.

An instantaneous result to a desire is fun to think about, but as much as I’d like it to be true, reality requires a lot more work. It requires research; knowing what I need to do to improve. People need to stop expecting a pill to erase everything they hate about their shape and size and take control of their body. They need to find the motivation to change nutrition habits, research and gain knowledge on how to make the right change, and apply the changes to everyday life.

Cosmetic Dentistry in Marietta

>> Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Cosmetic dentistry is perhaps the fastest growing field of dentistry.  The main purpose of cosmetic dentistry is to improve the appearance and function of a person’s teeth.  You are probably familiar with some form of cosmetic dentistry, such as teeth whitening or cosmetic fillings.  Because the teeth are in such a visible position, many people choose to have cosmetic dental work done in order to keep the teeth looking their best.  There are many highly qualified dentists who offer cosmetic dental services, so here is a look at some of the procedures you might have done.

Teeth Whitening

· Teeth whitening is among the most common cosmetic dental procedures performed.  While there are now many over the counter teeth whitening products available, a dentist-supervised teeth whitening treatment is the recommended solution for restoring the appearance of discolored teeth, as some other products can permanently damage the enamel.
· Tooth discoloration is caused primarily by the exposure of dentin (dark tissue of your teeth) as enamel is weakened and worn away, as well as by staining caused by food, tobacco, and other sources.
· Other causes include medications that can cause graying of the teeth, traumatic injury that causes discoloration starting at the root and natural discoloration from aging.
· If you are curious about teeth whitening, contact a qualified dentist for further information.

Cosmetic Fillings

· There are now more aesthetically appealing alternatives to the traditional silver fillings (known as amalgam).  These fillings mimic the look and color of enamel, enabling them to blend in better.  Aesthetic fillings are becoming an increasingly common characteristic of cosmetic dentistry.
· The three most common are called “composite,” “ionomers,” and “porcelain” fillings.  You should keep in mind that none of these fillings are as strong as standard amalgam fillings, and are meant for aesthetic purposes. six month braces

Cosmetic Contouring

· Dental reshaping and contouring is a procedure to fix crooked teeth, chipped teeth, cracked teeth, or even overlapping teeth.  The problem can often be fixed in just one session.
· Under some circumstances, dental contouring can be used as a substitute for braces.
· Typically the procedure is done to alter the length, shape, or position of teeth, normally with good results.  A crooked tooth, for example, could be fixed by removing a small amount of enamel to fix the alignment.

Erick D. Smith blogs about dental information and explains a few different types of dental procedures for a group of Marietta dentists. If you are living in Georgia and struggle with a bad smile or a tooth problem these can be fixed by visiting any of the Marietta cosmetic dentistry practices.

Cosmetic Surgery - The Most Common Procedures For Men

>> Friday, March 4, 2011

Cosmetic surgery has been popular with women for decades now. As society continues to place a high value on the appearance of face and body, more men than ever before are having cosmetic surgery treatments to improve their looks. Men are now comfortable taking advantage of all the benefits that a good cosmetic surgery procedure can provide. The most common procedures are:

Liposuction
Men are getting liposuction under the chin, around the breasts and around the waist and hips. Many men can notice an increase in fatty deposits around the breast area as they get older. Liposuction removes underlying fat from under the chin, around the waist and in the breasts making a man look younger and more fit. Especially in a bathing suit or with his love interest.

Dermabrasion
More men than ever before are coming in for dermabrasion treatments to smooth out the surface appearance of their facial wrinkles. Men who work outdoors in the sun or who have surface scars are using dermabrasion to make their facial imperfections less noticeable.

Botox Treatments
Botox treatments for men are more popular than ever before. Just like women, men want to keep the appearance of aging at bay. Older men use Botox to feel competitive with younger men in the workforce. Botox treatments are also used by men who are getting back into the dating scene and want to look as attractive as possible.
Laser Hair Removal
Men are now getting hair removal treatments as a grooming aid. Men typically have their eyebrows done to remove the "uni-brow" look. Some men have laser hair removal treatments to thin out the hair that grows on their backs, necks and chest area.

Blepharoplasty Or Eyelid Surgery
This treatment is popular with men who complain about looking older than they feel. Eyelid surgery corrects drooping upper eyelids and puffy under-eye bags that make a man look tired and worn out. Removing excess fat, muscle and skin around the eyes gives a man a more youthful appearance.

Hair Transplants
Before the invention of hair transplants, men had to resign themselves to going bald. Male pattern baldness was something that ran in families and just had to be accepted. The invention of hair transplanting methods changed everything for balding men.

In the U.K., men have many different hair transplant clinics around the country to choose from. Farjo Medical Center, Crown Clinic and Advanced Hair Studio are just a few of the hair transplant studios that can be found in the London area. Advanced Hair Studio also has many other different locations throughout Europe. Hair transplantation does more than just regrow hair. It has given men back their self-confidence and self-esteem making it one of the most sought after cosmetic surgery procedures for men.

4 Secrets For Never Getting Sick Again

>> Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Shhh, this is for your eyes only. Face it, getting sick stinks. If you don't have to, why would you get sick? These 4 clandestine tips will keep you healthy and raring to go.
________________________________________________________________________________

No one likes getting sick (at least not the for real sick that you're not using to try and get out of school or work). Really being sick simply does not make anyone very happy. You do, however, have more of a choice in the matter than you may think. In most cases, you can start right now by doing things that will decrease the likelihood of contracting an illness.

Before spilling the beans on the top secrets, however, realize that when our bodies decide to give up and allow invading forces to overtake us, there is usually some reasons and meanings for the surrender. The human physiological systems are actually pretty amazing at doing what nature and evolution designed them for. Sickness, however, usually picks on those of us who do very little to help their bodily machines get strong and stay ahead of the advancing forces of illness and disease.

So, the first secret is just that; doing what your body needs you to do in order to stay strong. One of the easiest and best ways to provide yourself with defenses is to be active. Exercise need not be world class athlete competition. Have a bike? Take a ride a few times a week.

No bike? Take a walk. With as little as 20 to 30 minute brisk walk a few times per week, you can start generating and circulating white blood cells throughout your body. Think of these little guys as your own personal disease fighting army. The more you have floating around, the better prepared you'll be when the office sickness makes its way into your cubicle.

The next top secret? Food! Plenty of it. But the food you consume needs to be the good stuff. It's okay to have a candy bar now and then, but every day at 2 P.M. on the dot washed down with a double cappuccino is not going to feed those white blood cell troops of yours.

Instead, try filling up on fruits and vegetables. Sure you can still enjoy a serving or two every week of your favorite red meat, but space those meals out. Insert some fresh fish and poultry into your diet as well.
Okay, you're moving around more and fueling yourself with the good stuff. Next secret? Shhhh. Don't forget about good oral hygiene. Much more than just brushing your teeth, you need to have a solid game plan to prevent sickness from entering your body through the oral cavity.

Research has shown that regular mouth washing, in addition to brushing regularly is a great way to reduce and prevent oral diseases from developing. Once you have bad health in your mouth, its only a stone's throw for that sickness to infect the rest of your waiting body.

A final top secret disease prevention tip is reducing your stress levels. You may think this is one of those fluffy list filling items, but there is a ton of research out there which indicates that people who are able to reduce and control the amounts of stress affecting them are also folks with less sickness in their lives.

When your body experiences stress, more of your disease fighting resources are sent out to deal with the new enemies causing the havoc in your life. While attempting to gain control of those nefarious influences, illness and disease can easily flank your troops and attack you when you least expect, or can hardly afford to be.

Some added bonuses which have been declassified but will still help you stay fit and healthy include getting proper rest. Stop watching every late night chat show while lying in bed.

Be positive. Good attitude keeps your troops in top fighting style. Oh, and wash your hands!
Above all, live a healthy lifestyle in mind and soul, and your body will be right there supporting you every step of the way.
