Depression and self pity can be misunderstood to be synonyms but they differ significantly. A person suffering from depression may need medical and therapeutic help, whereas self pity is more a state of being sympathetic and drawn towards you and apparently does not require any medical aid. It is more of a deliberately acquired or created state with negligible contribution of external factors. Depression is backed by many symptoms like loss of interest in activities which you normally enjoy, disturbed sleep and appetite, negative emotions like “death”, poor concentration and continuous fatigue.
