Four things to consider when buying an electronic cigarette
>> Wednesday, March 14, 2012
Smokers all over the world have been peering past their conventional cigarettes in recent years to scope out electronic cigarettes - or eCigarettes to some.
People who smoke generally tend to be very attached to their habit, whether physically or psychologically dependent it will often take something special to drag them away from their cigarettes.
So when an electronic version of their favourite vice came along, it is no surprise to see that smokers - even if they are dead set on giving up - will approach the solution cautiously. Not only have they never tried one before, how do they tell which is the top electronic cigarette in a market that now encompasses a number of brands?
As with the choice of conventional cigarettes, there is no definitive top product - different options will suit different people. But rather than judge the devices simply on how much they keep your nicotine cravings at bay, try using the following four categories to judge how much you like them:
Look
The aesthetics of of an electronic cigarette may seem like a superficial thing to worry about when it comes to the topic of giving up smoking, but there is a good reason for choosing one that you like the look of.
The whole point of eCigarettes is that you use them to stop you sparking up a real smoke, but if you are suddenly embarrassed by the shape or colour of your electronic cigarettes - perhaps in a social situation - then you are more likely to have a real cigarette.
Price
Another key aspect of giving up is knowing that you can afford it - check your budget to see how much it will cost you to buy the actual eCigarette plus the replacement cartridges as you use the device. It's up to you - and your will power - how long you end up using the electronic cigarette, but you must make sure your attempts at quitting smoking are not hampered by cash issues.
Experience
This is another crucial point - the experience of using your eCigarette must be at the very least palatable if not pleasurable. The more you enjoy utilising the device, the less likely you are to crave your old smokes, so try and pick one that feels good to 'smoke'. It goes without saying that you will not get the same feeling as a normal cigarette, but consider aspects such as the flavour and vapour production.
Battery
Perhaps not quite as key as the other three points, the battery life of an electronic cigarette may be more important to people who travel a lot or regularly go out on extended social occasions - since the last thing they will want is to be left without nicotine while out and about.
